The Analysis
Bermudan Blue is a deep, moody teal that absorbs a significant amount of light due to its low LRV of 10.58. Because it reflects so little light, it will shrink the perceived size of a room, creating an intimate and enclosed atmosphere.
It is best used as a bold accent wall, in a dedicated media room, or for cabinetry to add depth. It is too heavy to act as a primary wall color for a whole home, as it can make standard-sized rooms feel cave-like.
LRV 11History & Origin
This color is a modern, saturated take on traditional dark library palettes. It leans contemporary, providing a sophisticated update to the classic 'gentleman’s study' aesthetic without feeling dated.
How to Use It
Pair this with warm walnut wood tones or unlacquered brass to offset the cool blue undertones. Use it in rooms with high ceilings or plenty of artificial lighting, as natural light alone won't be enough to prevent it from looking like a flat black-blue.
The Mood
This shade provides a restful and grounded environment, making it excellent for spaces where you want to retreat rather than socialize. It feels stable and calm, lacking the high-energy vibration of brighter, lighter blues.
Colour harmonies
Complementary
Opposite on the colour wheel — bold, high-contrast pairings. Use for a feature wall or furniture you want to command attention.
Analogous
Neighbouring hues — cohesive and calm, great for layered schemes that feel collected rather than matched.
Split complementary
Near-opposites for strong contrast with a little less tension than a pure complement. A favourite of interior designers.
Triadic
Three evenly spaced hues — balanced, vibrant, and versatile. Keep one dominant and use the others sparingly.
Tetradic (square)
Four hues in a square on the wheel — rich, dynamic palettes. Best when one colour leads and the others accent.
Monochromatic
Dark, mid, and light steps on the same hue — a failsafe gradient for trim, walls, and accents without shifting colour family.
