Tropical Fruit

Benjamin Moore · CSP-1115

The Analysis

Tropical Fruit is a deep, warm terracotta-toned coral that anchors a room by absorbing light rather than reflecting it. Because of its lower Light Reflectance Value (LRV 30.1), it will make a space feel cozy and intimate rather than open and airy.

This is a bold, high-impact colour best suited for use as an accent wall, a dramatic powder room, or inside a dedicated workspace. It is too saturated for a full-room application unless you are aiming for a very moody, cocoon-like atmosphere.

LRV 30

History & Origin

While it draws inspiration from 1970s earth-tone palettes, it functions as a modern, sophisticated update to traditional terracotta. It feels fresh and contemporary rather than nostalgic or dated.

How to Use It

Pair this with natural wood tones like walnut or teak, and use matte black hardware to ground the intensity of the pigment. It thrives in rooms with ample natural light, which helps prevent the tone from feeling muddy or flat.

The Mood

This shade is undeniably energizing and stimulating, making it an excellent choice for spaces where you want to feel active. It provides a grounded, organic warmth that feels lively and intentional throughout the day.

Colour harmonies

Complementary

Opposite on the colour wheel — bold, high-contrast pairings. Use for a feature wall or furniture you want to command attention.

Analogous

Neighbouring hues — cohesive and calm, great for layered schemes that feel collected rather than matched.

Split complementary

Near-opposites for strong contrast with a little less tension than a pure complement. A favourite of interior designers.

Triadic

Three evenly spaced hues — balanced, vibrant, and versatile. Keep one dominant and use the others sparingly.

Tetradic (square)

Four hues in a square on the wheel — rich, dynamic palettes. Best when one colour leads and the others accent.

Monochromatic

Dark, mid, and light steps on the same hue — a failsafe gradient for trim, walls, and accents without shifting colour family.
